Rush Phi Psi
Begins September 24th, 2007
Leadership
There are many different opportunities to get involved and undertake leadership roles through the many officer and committee positions. The leadership opportunities within the local chapter add substantial value to a young man's education, beyond that which is available in a classroom. Each local chapter of Phi Kappa Psi is governed and managed by undergraduate members elected by their peers, with the advice and assistance of alumni members who serve as chapter advisors. In some chapters, more of the day-to-day operations are managed by the undergraduates ( meal service, maintenance and repairs, mortgage or rent payments, etc. ), while in other chapters the alumni advisors play a greater role.
Academics
Fraternities assist in that transition by offering scholarship activities which might include study partners, mandatory study hours, and time management workshops. You can access the network of fraternity members who already know how to use campus resources like the library, study skills centers, computer labs, and academic advisors. The Endowment Fund of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity has an ongoing program under which local chapters can apply for grants to install computer network wiring, Internet access, and up-to-date computer equipment in the chapter house. Some of our chapters are ranked number one academically on campus, while some are just average. Although Phi Kappa Psi encourages the academic achievement of its members, ultimately responsibility lies with each member, and the extent to which the many resources made available to him are utilized.
Scholarships
The Michigan Beta Chapter of Phi Kappa Psi offers scholarships totaling $22,000 annually to it's members. In addition, established in 1914, the Endowment Fund of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity gives annual scholarships to undergraduate and graduate student members. This multi-million dollar fund, made possible by the generosity of our alumni, provides approximately $200,000 in scholarships each year.
Cabo Alpha Leadership Academy
Cabo San Lucas is a small city at the southern most tip of the Baja Peninsula and is the home of the Cabo Alpha Leadership Academy. This beautiful spot has not yet been corrupted by tourism, and is one of the most worthwile destinations in Mexico. While having the time of your life, you will also meet influential alumni within the fraternity, make life-long connections with other brothers, and learn valuable leadership skills that can't be obtained anywhere else. This conference includes speeches from Jerry Nelson (Founder of Ticket Master), Paul Wineman (chief negotiator for Anhiser Busch, and Pepsi Cola), and many other prominent business men in the United States. Cabo is truly a once in a lifetime experience and Michigan Beta encourages all of our members to attend the confernece at least once.
